I have always loved Soundwave, probably my 3rd favorite TF, so when this figure came out I had to get him. Let’s be clear, his name is Soundwave so he needs some sounds. So that is where I began. I found my parts from Adafruit.com, not only did I find useful parts but helpful suggestions and how to’s.
The sound card I used is the Adafruit Audio FX Sound Board + 2x2W Amp – WAV/OGG Trigger -16MB. Programmable with enough memory to store more than just a few sounds. Also picked up Adafruit Pro Trinket LiIon/LiPoly Backpack Add-On so I could use Lithium Ion Polymer Battery – 3.7v 100mAh, then of course I needed a speaker so I ordered Mini Metal Speaker w/ Wires – 8 ohm 0.5W. Last but no least I grabbed a few switches/buttons, Breadboard-friendly SPDT Slide Switch (yeah it may be ideal for a breadboard but I can still use it) and Tactile Switch Buttons (6mm slim), I got the 20 pack for future projects.
All of this fit in his tape deck, this means he can still transform but no longer can have anything else in there, small price to pay. I only added white to his arms, and panel lining. I wasn’t going for a drastic change cause I was focused on adding the sound. Check out my sound check videos at the bottom.
